9-10 Team Set for State Quarterfinals

 The Cactus Foothills South 9-10 All-Star Team completed State Tournament pool play 4-0 after Tuesday night’s 10-5 victory over previously undefeated Litchfield Park.    Connor Benson, Zach Valentine, and Collin Cummings combined to strike out 8 LP batters.  Landry Harkless retired the last batter to close the game.    Offensively, Connor Benson and Landry Harkless each had 3 hits for CFS.   Kobe Bowen added 2 hits and drove in 2 runs.   After Litchfield Park had tied the score 5-5, CFS regained the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning on Colin Westerman’s sacrifice bunt.   Connor Benson added a 2-run home run in the sixth.


With the victory, CFS secured the top seed from Pool A.  The team begins elimination play tonight at 7:45pm with a quarterfinal game against Chandler National South (2-2).    The winner of tonight’s game will advance to Friday night’s semi-final game against the winner of West Flagstaff (3-1) and Coronado (3-1).


Please put on your highlighter gear and come out to the park tonight (5125 E. Marilyn Road, Scottsdale) to support the team!!  We are looking for a big (and loud) crowd tonight!!

9-10 Team Remains Undefeated

The Cactus Foothills South 9-10 All-Star Team moved to 3-0 in the State Tournament with a 9-2 victory over previously undefeated Coronado (Tucson) on Monday night.    Grant Richardson started on the mound for CFS, throwing 3.2 shutout innings while striking out 5.  Zach Valentine struck out 2 in 1.1 innings of scoreless work in relief.   Landry Harkless closed the game for South.   Offensively, Jayden Bahoura led the South with 3 hits.   Luke Newman drove in 3 runs on 2 hits.   Tanner Jacob and Landry Harkless also contributed 2 hits each for CFS.  With the victory, the 9-10 team moved its overall record in All-Star play to 10-0 having outscored its opponents 168-6.
